Lower Neaudd Reservoir Decommissioning
Client: Welsh Water / Skanska – AMP 6 Framework.
Project Description: Decommissioning of a reservoir.
Dates: Sept 2018 to Oct 2020.
Project Work Types: Earthworks, Drainage, Footpaths, RC works, Culvert Renewals, Masonry Repairs to spillway.
Project Value: £4.5m
Project Delivery: In house resources.
Project Specialities: In River Working, Public Footpath Diversions & Management, Restricted Access, Water Management, National Park, Listed Structures.
Environmental: Bats within existing buildings.
Value Engineering: The masonry culvert was due to be replace with PC units, changed to sleeving with a large plastic pipe and cladding with masonry to keep the feature.
Client Feedback: Proud to hand back the asset to the National Park and to keep the history alive.
Lower Neaudd Reservoir Spillway

Project Description: Repairs to the masonry spillway
Dates: July 2020 to Oct 2020
Project Work Types: Masonry Repairs to spillway, over-pumping of flows, river management
Project Value: £500k
Project Delivery: In house resources
Project Specialities: In River Working, Restricted Access, Water Management, National Park, Listed Structures
Environmental: Bats within existing buildings nearby, river flow management.
Value Engineering: Salvage of existing masonry from the channel and import from a local source to ensure to ensure the listed structure maintains its originality.
Client Feedback: Proud to hand back the asset to the National Park and to keep the history alive.
Nant-Y-Gloesydd Culvert Collapse
Client: Welsh Water / Skanska – AMP 6 Framework
Project Description: Repair of a collapsed masonry culvert, and the reinstatement of the access road above.
Dates: July 2020 to Oct 2020
Project Work Types: Earthworks, Culvert Renewals, Masonry Repairs, Brickwork, foam Concrete.
Project Value: £850K but value engineered to £300k
Project Delivery: In house resources
Project Specialities: In River Working, Restricted Access, Water Management / over-pumping flows, National Park, Listed Structures.
Environmental: Flash flood area requires careful monitoring of flows and weather conditions.

Taff Fechan In-River Works

Prioress Mill Water Treatment Works

Project Description: Upgrades to Water Intake Works
Dates: Start 2019 – Aug 2020
Project Work Types: Earthworks, Drainage, RC works, Finishes, kerbing, Paving, In-river Dam
Project Value: £3.5m
Project Delivery: In house resources

Project Specialities: Excavation in the River Usk bank, below the bed level which required the installation of an in-river dam.
Environmental: Working in flood plain, Working within a water course
Value Engineering: Excavated spoils used in the flood protection bunds.
Client Feedback: A difficult environment to work in, was made easy by team.
Llanfoist Wastewater Treatment Works
Client: Welsh Water / Skanska – Amp 6.
Project Description: Upgrades to Sewage Works – including flood protection bunds.
Dates: Start Sept 2018 – Sept 2020.
Project Work Types: Earthworks, Drainage, RC works, Finishes, kerbing, Paving.
Project Value: £1.2m
Project Delivery: In house resources.
Project Specialities: Contaminated land, clay core flood protection bunds.
Environmental: Working in flood plain, waste reduction.
Value Engineering: Old lagoons required emptying, the client started removing it by road tanker but this was expensive and slow, instead the bulk of the liquid was removed to the treatment works and Atlas used a soil stabilisation process to dry the remaining waste and it was removed by excavator and taken away by road lorries. This method was quicker, and the volume was significantly reduced.
Client Feedback: Very pleased with the cost saving, and the reduction of material to landfill.
Crai Pumping Station
Client: Welsh Water / Skanska – AMP 6 Framework.
Project Description: New Pumping Station.
Dates: Dec 2019 – April 2020.
Project Work Types: Earthworks, Pipework, Drainage, Footpaths, RC works, Finishing Works, Main contractors compound removal and reinstatement.
Project Value: Atlas Subcontract package £100k.
Project Delivery: In house resources, no subcontract.
Project Specialities: Works within an operation Plant and a National Park.
Environmental: Topsoil storage as per Defra guidelines.
Value Engineering: Recycled aggregates, reused all existing topsoil.
Client Feedback: Good quality finishes, high standard of workmanship.
